Minister of Finance Jim FlahertyMinisters Announce the Launch of the Business Credit Availability Program Website

Ottawa, May 19, 2009

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, and the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, today announced the opening of the Business Credit Availability Program (BCAP) website.

"I would invite Canadian businesses who are looking for new credit solutions to visit the BCAP website," said Minister Flaherty. "Ensuring access to credit is one of our main priorities in taking action on the Canadian economy."

The BCAP website features a description of the program, explains the roles of Export Development Canada (EDC), the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and private sector institutions, and provides contact information. It also includes examples of business success stories. Working in co-operation with the private sector, EDC and BDC will provide at least $5 billion in additional loans and other forms of credit support and enhancement at market rates to businesses with viable business models whose access to financing would otherwise be restricted.

Participating private sector lenders have committed to work with the financial Crown corporations to find solutions for creditworthy businesses who would otherwise have insufficient access to credit.

"Our government continues to take strong and comprehensive action to ensure that businesses have access to the credit they need in these difficult times," added Minister Clement. "The Business Credit Availability Program is a critical component of the Extraordinary Financing Framework announced in Budget 2009."

The June Report to Parliament will contain the first update on the volume of credit extended under BCAP, with regular updates available on the BCAP website.

The BCAP website is located at www.fin.gc.ca/bcap.

If you are already Certified and are contemplating raising your rates but are unsure how to announce it to your clients, you will appreciate our newest document, created by IPBC's professional copy writer. National Phone Conference- June 17th, 2009

IPBC's next National Phone Conference will be held on June 17th, 11:30am PDT.

We are pleased to present Debi Peverill, CA, of Peverill & Associates Inc., and 6 time author speaking on "How to recognize when a business should incorporate".

Debi Peverill is a veteran speaker. She has been facilitating workshops for universities, as well as public and private sector organizations since 1986. Debi is as well known for her sense of humour as for the depth of her financial knowledge.

Debi Peverill holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours in Accounting) from Dalhousie University and the Chartered Accountants designation from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. She spent ten years with national accounting firms before founding her own firm in 1988. Debi's firm, Peverill & Associates, provides all the services of a public accounting practice.

SBR Communications was founded by Debi in 1998 to separate the growing volume of training and speaking business from the accounting practice. SBR Communications provides speaking, training, facilitation, as well as website design and internet consulting services.

Debi's repertoire of training covers many areas. She is the sole instructor for the Certificate of Financial Management program, offered from October to April each year at Saint Mary's University Executive and Professional Development at the World Trade Center in Halifax. Debi also teaches a portion of the Diploma in Management program at the same location.

Debi has been actively involved as a financial counsellor with the Self Employed Assistance program funded by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC). This program offers training and income support to participants who are receiving employment assistance benefits and wish to become self employed. Debi has facilitated the complete six-week training program offered by several delivery agents under this program throughout the province and provided financial training to participants in Halifax since the inception of the program.

Debi also provides taxation seminars for a variety of community groups, as well as the general public. Feedback from previous participants consistently indicates that Debi is able to explain what appears to be boring and/or complicated topics in an easy to understand and frequently humorous manner.

Tuesday June 16th, 4:30PM to 6:00PM (Pacific Time)

*Register early as this informational and education session is limited to only 6 people*

Here's what participants at the Fraser Valley CGA Computer User Group in October, 2008, and Vancouver CGA Computer User Group in March 2009 had to say when asked what was useful about this presentation:

"... you made me think about Procedure Manuals, which I have been avoiding...Good to learn proper organization before writing procedures and questions to ask when starting a manual of procedures ...Exposure to different applications and software...programs that seem to be very easy to use and expand upon. I really liked the stories you told because they related very well with the topic. It's that easy!"

Led by Eileen Reppenhagen, CGA, and Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, participants will learn the tricks of the trade to quickly and easily create professional procedure documentation.

Eileen writes a monthly column for Advisor Advantage, an Intuit Canada publication for ProAdvisors, and provides online training for QuickBooks users, creating mini procedures manuals with each article.

She is a member of the Intuit Canada Voice of Advisor, delivers regional training for Intuit Canada, and has recently been asked to participate in the Accountant/Trainer Network, acting as a spokesperson for Intuit Canada at local events.

Date and Time:

Tuesday June 16th, 4:30PM to 6:00PM(Pacific Time)

Location: From your desktop, by email invitation view Eileen's desktop using GoToMeeting and participate in the call by Skype (free) or teleconference (long distance charges will apply)

Note: To ensure a quality even, as this is being recorded for sale as an IPBC fundraiser, the number of registrations is limited. We suggest an early reservation will avoid disappointment. Watch for the audio/video download for sale as soon as production is completed.

In this dynamic, unique course, learn:

How to start a procedure manual by asking the right questions (Free starter template included)

What tools make creating manuals easy? (Easy to use, inexpensive software)

How procedure manuals minimize the cost of staff training, staff turnover, accounting and tax preparation

Why start from scratch? Attend this 90 minute workshop. Learn how Smart Art, Snag It and GoToMeeting, along with your FREE Procedures Template will give you the jump start on creating procedures manuals that will save you money and reduce your stress next time you need to remember how to...

Cost: $29.95 (Includes GST/HST)
