Certified Professional Bookkeeper Exam (CPB) Guidelines

Members are permitted to register for the CPB exam providing they meet the Tier 4 requirements. The non-refundable CPB exam registration fee is $225+tax

The on-line exam registration serves as your confirmation and agreement to abide by the CPBTM Exam Guidelines as outlined below.

After registering for the CPB exam on the IPBC website you then need to schedule a 3 hour exam appointment at either an Academy of Learning College, a local college or a Certified Accountant's office, as long as they are not your employer. To find an Academy of Learning College in your area, Click Here  The IPBC monitors CPB exams on Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM Pacific Time. Exams must be started and completed within this time frame.

Once your exam appointment is scheduled please e-mail the IPBC Exam Coordinator this information: the date and time of your exam and the facilitators name, telephone number and e-mail address. The IPBC requires at least ten (10) business days to coordinate an exam.

Prior to your exam date e-mail two letters of reference from long-term customer(s), employers and/or accountant(s), to exam-coordinator@ipbc.ca. Your reference letter's must be on company letterhead and verify at least four years of bookkeeping experience as outlined in the Tier 4 Exam Completion requirements. 

After the IPBC receives the signed invigilation papers from your facilitator and your reference letters the IPBC Exam Coordinator will confirm your exam appointment with you via e-mail.

Invigilation fees are paid directly to the location where you take the exam and are paid to your facilitator prior to the exam. The Academy of Learning charges IPBC Member's $40 - $60 for this service.

You should arrive at the exam location at least 15 minutes before your scheduled exam time.

You MUST bring photo ID to the exam; the facilitator is required to e-mail or fax a copy of your ID to the IPBC before you start your exam.

On the day of your exam, the invigilator will set you up on their office computer and load the exam webpage provided to them by the IPBC and they are responsible to oversee your exam during the 3 hour time limit. You will be required to sign into the IPBC website to start the exam.

No cell phones, hand bags, purses etc. are permitted in your possession during the exam. Only a calculator, pen/pencil and paper will be allowed into the exam. Any papers brought into the exam must be left behind; you cannot take notes away with you.

The CPBTM exams are copyright protected and are the property of the IPBC, any attempt to copy, transfer or share any part of the exam will result in legal action and expulsion from the organization.

Cheating is a violation of our code of ethics and if you are caught using any device to assist in the exam including access to the internet will automatically result in a fail and suspension of your membership pending an investigation from our ethics committee.

The passing grade is 80% or 80 correct answers out of 100. You will see your exam results on the monitor within minutes of submitting your answers. The IPBC will not provide the questions and/or answers you answered correctly or incorrectly on the exam, you will only receive an e-mail notifying you of your mark.

Upon successfully passing the exam you will receive your CPBTM certificate within four - six weeks and will be entitled to use the CPB logo representing your CPBTM - Certified Professional Bookkeeper certification that can be downloaded from the CPBTM library.

In the event you do not pass the exam on your first attempt, 90 days must pass before you may attempt a retake of the exam. Exam re-take fees are $175.
